Basic Purpose
Provides media relations and reputational management for NV Energy. Acts as a resource to internal stakeholders to research, plan, develop and measure external media programs to educate customers and improve customer satisfaction scores. Provides leadership for the corporate communications team and serves as the primary spokesperson.

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in communications, journalism, or a related field and six years of experience in external communications, media, public relations, or corporate communications roles.

Candidates that do not possess a bachelor’s degree must have ten years of experience in external communications, media, public relations, or corporate communications roles.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Communication principles, theory and change management
  • Social media strategy and execution
  • Conventional, digital, and social media communication management

Demonstrated skills such as:

  • Excellent writer and editor
  • Analytical, proactive and strong communicator through multiple channels
  • Thrives in a fast-paced work environment with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Experience translating complex issues for the public and ability to develop and implement comprehensive corporate communications plans and programs to address key issues and opportunities
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence actions and negotiate outcomes through effective written and oral communications
  • Working in a complex and rapidly changing business environment, with the ability to judge priorities for the best interests of the company while meeting multiple information needs of media including deadlines
  • Flexibility and availability to respond to media and emergencies 24/7

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops strong relationships with media, facilitates interviews, and acts as a spokesperson for the company. Serves as a key contact for media on volatile, complicated and sensitive topics.
  • Promotes the company’s overall strategy, policies, and priorities to improve customer satisfaction through media avenues to influence external stakeholder groups and enhance understanding and support of the company.
  • Serves as Public Information Officer. Leverages national, regional and local media relationships and channels to reinforce business priorities to elevate the company’s reputation and role in local communities and among key stakeholders.
  • Establishes and maintains media programs for operational/customer service outage response.
  • Leads and implements various crisis and emergency response activities.
  • Advises and supports company executives and leaders on communications techniques that reinforce business priorities, customer satisfaction goals and key messages.
  • Drives impact, perception and consistency of approved external messages through collaboration with the corporate communications director, external marketing consultants and other external facing teams including community and government relations, economic development and major accounts.
  • Leads the communications team; directs day-to-day activities, builds and executes communications strategy and plans, offers guidance and direction.
  • Provides employee performance reviews for communications team members. Identifies performance and personnel issues for resolution.
  • Collaborates with other members of the corporate communications team to develop ongoing efforts to cross-train and develop bench strength in the areas of public spokesperson, issues management and proactive reputational management.
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
