The purpose of this position is to provide an entry level into the pipeline welding field to perform certified pipeline welding, maintenance and repairs on plant and pipeline facilities.

- Associate's degree in engineering technology or related technical field or equivalent work experience. (Typically, two years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.)
- One or more years of experience with routine operation and maintenance activities and pipeline and plant welding repairs.
- Must be familiar with precision measuring instruments and be able to read x-rays and blueprints.
- Must have current NNG welding certification or acquire NNG certification as a condition of hiring or employment, to meet the current engineering standard requirements for 1104 and American Society of Mechanical Engineers welding on Northern Natural Gas pipeline and facilities utilizing shielded metal arc and shielded metal gas processes and equipment.
- Must become knowledgeable of NNG welding procedures, company operating procedures, Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency procedures, engineering standards, Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, safety practices and routine administrative duties, as well as state and federal protocol.

- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
- Ability to safely work in remote locations, often working alone.
- Subject to hazardous conditions including high pressure gas, welding on loaded lines, adverse weather conditions and temperatures, heights, heavy lifting and cramped working quarters.
- Must be willing to work overtime.
- Must be willing to work away from home on occasion for extended periods of time.
- With assistance, successfully perform API 1104 and ASME code welding activities on pipelines, ASME vessels, associated fittings and plant equipment per NNG procedures which requires the use of specialized tools and equipment. (60-65%)
- Assist and support senior pipeline welders in performing piping job setup, layout and tack up duties required to complete welding services related to the maintenance and construction of pipeline and plant facilities. (20-25%)
- Perform skilled manual duties involved in the fabrication and repair of miscellaneous construction, pipeline and plant facilities projects and equipment. (10-15%)
- Ensure proper maintenance of assigned equipment is completed within required timelines and make equipment recommendations as necessary. (5-10%)
- Prepare and maintains proper records and reports. (5%)
- Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (0-5%)
