COMPENSATION: $20.00; full-time position; 40 hours a week

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Full-time position. Typically, 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday 0800-1700 with weekends off. Occasional weekend or overtime work will be required at times throughout the year.

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

Since 1984, Northwest Youth Corps (NYC), a non-profit organization, has given tens of thousands of youth and young adults opportunities to learn, grow, and experience success. Through partnerships with conservation agencies, youth and young adults gain the personal and professional skills needed to carry out a variety of stewardship projects, from which they can earn a paycheck, high school credit, and/or an AmeriCorps educational award. More importantly, these young people gain skills needed to become economically and socially self-sufficient, benefit their communities as citizen stewards, and recognize that they can make a positive difference.

NYC also operates an accredited charter school, internship program, and the Idaho Conservation Corps (ICC).

NYC engages youth and young adults from all walks of life and provides a multifaceted experience that helps propel them into future opportunities and careers. Hard and soft skills are taught and reinforced through formal practical trainings. NYC strives to provide program participants the skills and competencies needed to succeed in a wide variety of professional environments and life circumstances.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Operations Coordinator is a key position that fulfills essential duties to support the operations and programming of Northwest Youth Corps and Idaho Conservation Corps. Areas of focus include equipment, vehicles, tools, and facilities. A successful candidate will be able to identify and prioritize daily and weekly projects to then carry them to completion with minimal supervision. Hours are flexible and may vary day-to-day and week-to-week based on project needs and priorities. This role is ideal for individuals seeking a dynamic and adaptable work environment.

Department Supervision and Collaborations

  • This position is supervised by the Director of Operations.
  • This position does not supervise

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain Equipment and Tools – Responsible for repairing and maintaining equipment and tools such as chainsaws, camp stoves, woodchippers, etc. (30%) as well as maintaining inventory, stocktaking, packing, and general purchasing.
  • Maintain Facilities and Grounds – Responsible for custodial as well as overseeing construction projects and repairs of facilities, including structural repairs, electrical, plumbing, painting, HVAC, and roofing. (30%)
  • Maintain NYC's Vehicle Fleet – Responsible for maintaining fleet vehicles and trailers through repairs such as replacing brakes, belts and fluids, electrical connectors, oil changes, new tires, etc. (30%)
  • Additional Tasks – Food packing, errands, administration, etc. (10%)

Position Qualifications and Certifications

Required

  • Thorough understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to equipment operation, hazardous materials, and workplace safety.
  • Significant experience and understanding of the principles and practices of at least three of the following:

o carpentry, plumbing, electrical, automotive, HVAC, small engine repair, construction, landscaping, and/or forestry

  • Computer literacy, including the ability to use email and
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record; must be able to pass NYC driving test and have the ability to safely navigate congested city streets while towing cargo trailers.

Desired

  • Relevant technical certifications (e.g., ASE for vehicle maintenance, HVAC certification, electrical licensing, Class B Sawyer, etc.)
  • The ability to communicate in American Sign Language or

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Applicant must be comfortable working in indoor and outdoor environments which include but are not limited to weather conditions such as rain, wind, snow, wet, cold, dry, and hot conditions and temperatures that range from as low as 15F to over 100F.
  • The noise level in the environment is quiet to PPE is provided and use is required.
  • The employee will be required to safely handle hazardous materials such as paint thinner, cleaning supplies, gasoline, and sharp objects such as axes, drawknives, and chainsaws.
  • Work environment: temperature, noise level, inside or outside, or other factors that will affect the person's working conditions while performing the job.
  • Physical demands: the physical demands of the job, including bending, sitting, lifting and driving.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds (with or without reasonable accommodation). The employee will be required to climb ladders.
