POSITION: Accounting Assistant


LOCATION: Northwest Youth Corps Headquarters, Eugene, Oregon


COMPENSATION: $21.00/hour Full-time

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

Since 1984, Northwest Youth Corps (NYC), a non-profit organization, has given tens of thousands of youth and young adults opportunities to learn, grow, and experience success. Through partnerships with conservation agencies, youth and young adults gain the personal and professional skills needed to carry out a variety of stewardship projects, from which they can earn a stipend, high school credit, and/or an AmeriCorps educational award. More importantly, these young people gain skills needed to become economically and socially self-sufficient, benefit their communities as citizen stewards, and recognize that they can make a positive difference. NYC also operates an accredited charter school, internship program, and the Idaho Conservation Corps (ICC).


POSITION SUMMARY

Northwest Youth Corps Finance team is adding a reliable and skilled Accounting Assistant to the team. The ideal candidate will be capable of learning our system with minimal supervision. Accounting Assistant will be a highly organized and detail-oriented person who communicates clearly. The ability to work both collaboratively and independently is a must. QuickBooks experience and technical skills are essential, as all accounting functions are performed on a computer, using QuickBooks, Excel, MS Word and Salesforce. A commitment to working as a member of the Northwest Youth Corps team towards a shared mission is a necessity. This position will report directly to the Finance Director.


POSITION DETAILS

  • Accounting Assistant will help support the continued organization commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, and seek to remove barriers to participation in NYC programs for underrepresented populations.

Department Supervision and collaborations

  • This position is supervised by the Finance Director.
  • This position does not supervise any positions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Credit Cards: Plans, coordinates, and administers specific Accounts Payable functions including credit cards, interacting with credit card staff and the Deputy Director, the Finance Director, and related monthly reports.
  • Responsible for reviewing program managers expenses and crew expenses, pulling reports, and travel expense requests, and payment documentation for accuracy and proper approval/coding.
  • Responsible for very specific fund coding that ends up being part of reimbursements for federal grants. Must be accurate and specific.
  • Responsible for paying Youth program stipends.
  • Payroll assistance: Assistant will have cross training with payroll.
  • Additional responsibilities include assisting with tracking grants and audit, answering phone calls, responding to information requests, organizing files, supporting ongoing operations, and other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications & Certifications

  • Minimum two years of college education (Qualifying job experience may be substituted for college education)
  • Minimum of 1 years' experience in bookkeeping
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in AP
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience in QuickBooks, Excel and MS Word


Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • In the performance of the job duties, the employee will work primarily in an office setting.
  • The noise level in the environment is quiet to PPE is provided and use is required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or vehicle; reach with hands and arms; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, and hear repeatedly.

Terms of Employment

Based in Eugene, this is a full-time, non- exempt position. Typical hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00 PM; with periodic long days and/or evening and weekend responsibilities seasonally.
