About the Department
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University (Raleigh, NC) is among the largest and most prominent in the nation. The department offers separate B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in both Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Aerospace Engineering (AE). The MAE department currently boasts 50 highly recognized tenure-track faculty, 7 professional track faculty and 19 staff members. The Department has an enrollment of over 1,200 undergraduates and 400 graduate students. The College of Engineering is ranked overall #25 by US News and #9 in research expenditures among all engineering colleges in the nation.

NC State’s location on Centennial Campus, combined with its proximity to the Research Triangle Park and neighboring universities, provides extensive opportunities for academic and industrial interaction and collaboration. Essential Job Duties
The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University is inviting applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level. We will also consider appointments at the Associate or Full Professor levels, with tenure, for exceptional candidates. We seek individuals who can address critical research challenges and collaborate with both existing and emerging research initiatives within the department, college, and university.
The department is interested in exceptional candidates with expertise in applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in mechanical and aerospace engineering. Examples may include but are not limited to: AI/ML-based digital twinning, assimilation of computational and experimental data, physics-informed AI/ML, novel experimental techniques that leverage AI/ML for improved accuracy, digital engineering workflow optimization, advanced computational physics simulation approaches that may leverage AI/ML for sub-model construction, AI/ML enabled computational design, and AI-enabled autonomous manufacturing.

Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the department’s mission by:
  1. Developing a strong, nationally recognized, and externally funded research program.
  2. Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to mechanical and/or aerospace engineering.
  3. Actively participating in professional service activities.

Successful candidates will have a demonstrated track record of scholarship, a creative vision for research, an active interest in engineering education, and strong communication skills.

For applications at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, an emphasis will be placed on the strength and caliber of the candidate’s existing research program and the candidate’s ability and desire to provide mentorship and leadership to an enthusiastic and rapidly growing department.

  • Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other closely related fields.
