*** The Target Pay Range typically considered for this position is $80,376 - $117,288 annually. The Full Pay Range for this WMS Band is $71,004 - $130,320 annually. Compensation decisions are determined using factors such as job-related skills, experience, and education or training. We will consider your individual qualifications, should we make you an offer of employment.
The Audit Operations Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the statewide audit function within Customer Service, Compliance, and Public Safety.
Reporting to the Audit Program Manager, this role manages a large, distributed team of audit professionals across multiple field offices, including direct oversight of field supervisors and is accountable for program performance, policy development, audit methodologies, and consistent statewide implementation of audit practices.
Key responsibilities include leading daily audit operations, managing budget and resources, guiding human resource functions, improving business processes, and developing training programs. The manager also acts on behalf of the Program Manager as needed, leads major projects, and contributes to strategic planning and policy decisions that impact the agency and regulated employers.
The position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the workers’ compensation system, ensuring fair business practices, and supporting agency goals related to customer experience, compliance, and public safety.
Duties

Some of what you’ll do:
- Lead and oversee daily operations of the statewide audit program
- Oversee internal budget/fiscal policies, and resource allocation
- Secure necessary staff workspace & equipment in regional offices and field locations
- Supervise, train, and support field staff of audit professionals
- Manage human resources functions, including hiring, performance management, and staff development
- Maintain and facilitate necessary revisions to standard work processes for all areas of program operations
- Develop, implement, and maintain audit processes and procedures. Drive process improvements to increase efficiency and consistency
- Design and deliver training programs and materials for audit staff
- Contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and program performance management
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies
- Represent and act on behalf of the Program Manager as assigned

Qualifications

Required:
Please Note: Qualifying experience may substitute year-for-year for education.
Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Criminal Justice, or similar field.
And
Three (3) years of professional accounting or auditing experience.
Or
Option 2: Successful completion of the Labor and Industries Auditor Training Program.
Or
Option 3: Equivalent education/experience will be considered but must include at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class or one (1) Business Law class).
And
A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience in public administration, worker’s compensation or other lines of insurance, state or federal tax compliance, auditing or accounting investigation or related fields.

Master’s degree (MBA, Master of Accountancy, etc.)
Prior experience in:
- Risk management
- Compliance and regulatory audits

The assigned duty station may be in any of our L&I service locations statewide. The incumbent must reside anywhere in Washington State, as well as those living near the Oregon/Washington or Idaho/Washington borders.
For this position, telework is dependent upon business needs and supervisor approval.
For positions where in-office work is necessary, the frequency of telework will be discussed with the supervisor of the position at the time of offer.
