DSHS FTAA Equipment Operator 2

We are hiring for an Equipment Operator 2 to join our hard-working Maintenance and Operations Division (MOD) team in Medical Lake, WA.


In this role, you will operate construction and earth moving equipment identified on the Equipment Operator Class B and Class C lists at Eastern State Hospital, Lakeland Village, Pinelodge and other surrounding DSHS property.

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Operate road equipment used in construction; snow removal of streets, roads, parking lots, and similar maintenance activities.
  • Operate loaders, backhoes and loading booms to lift, move or place material or supplies.
  • Operate dump trucks with trailers for the hauling of equipment, keep equipment in good working order, make emergency adjustments, greases, oils, services, and make minor repairs to equipment and vehicles.
  • Maintain records of equipment use fuel and oil consumption.
  • Performs a variety of cleanup and/or maintenance work during periods of severe inclement weather or during breaks between projects.
  • Ensure that the facilities are repaired and maintained to meet required operation and regulatory standards.
  • Assure adherence of Safety rules and precautions.
  • Perform daily garbage service.
  • Operate trucks with or without trailer (28,000 to 72,000 Gross Vehicle Weight).

What we’re looking for:
  • Knowledge of: rules of safe operation of equipment; state motor vehicle laws; materials used in servicing and maintaining heavy equipment; rules governing operation of state vehicles; methods, tools, and materials used in servicing and maintaining heavy equipment.
  • Ability to: operate heavy construction equipment in safe and skillful manner; make adjustments and repairs to equipment; follow oral and written instructions; keep simple records; work to grade.
  • An unrestricted motor vehicle operator’s license with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Who should apply?
  • Those with three years of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment including operation of bulldozers, graders, excavators, cranes, or similar equipment; or, full journey status as a Heavy Equipment Operator by work experience, vocational or trade school apprenticeship program, or any combination of the above.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
