Washington State Ferries (WSF) is an essential part of Washington's transportation network. The Opportunity

WSF, a division of the WSDOT, is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer 3, Lead-Level CADD Specialist to support Terminal Engineering’s delivery of critical infrastructure projects across the ferry system. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate, high-quality, and constructible contract documents that directly support safe, reliable ferry operations and the traveling public. As a technical leader and subject matter expert, this position advances engineering consistency, strengthens cross-disciplinary coordination, and supports the transition to modern design tools and workflows. What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Transportation Engineer 3 will:

  • Perform advanced, hands-on CADD production.
  • Produce, modify, and finalize architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical plan sheets.
  • Independently develop complex plan sets for terminal and marine facilities.
  • Assemble and organize complete plan sets in preparation for internal review and contract advertisement.
  • Perform QA/QC of in-house and consultant contract plans.
  • Review plans for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with WSF/WSDOT CADD standards.
  • Provide advanced technical guidance and coaching to CADD users.
  • Represent the CADD department at project meetings, coordinate with PMs, engineers, and consultants.
  • Assist with CADD scopes, schedules, and effort estimates.
  • Support CADD standards, templates, and guidance documents.
  • Maintain ProjectWise and file structures, support implementation of new tools and workflows, and mentor staff in CADD systems. Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • CADD Software Proficiency
    • Demonstrated expert working knowledge using industry-standard CADD and project collaboration tools (e.g., Bentley MicroStation V8i, OpenRoads Designer, InRoads, ProjectWise) to produce and manage engineering deliverables.
  • Technical Plan Interpretation
    • Ability to read, understand, and interpret, contract plans.
  • Plan Production and Drafting
    • Experience producing civil, mechanical, electrical, and/or structural plan sheets based on engineering direction, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
  • Time Management and Project Delivery
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks, interpret instructions, and meet project timelines and deadlines in a production environment.
  • Digital Tools and Office Applications
    • Working proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) to support documentation, coordination, and communication.
  • Service Orientation
    • Demonstrated ability to respond to the needs of internal and external stakeholders in a collaborative and solution-focused manner.
  • Continuous Learning and Adaptability
    • Demonstrated commitment to learning new tools, technologies, and processes, including participation in training and skill development.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Advanced CADD Expertise
    • Advanced experience using CADD platforms aligned with WSF/WSDOT standards to support complex plan production and technical deliverables.
  • BIM / Revit Experience
    • Experience using Revit or similar BIM tools to support design development and plan production.

  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
  • In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
