Firefighter Volunteer - Wildland/EMS

The Volunteer Wildland/EMS Firefighter is an in-district (Must live in area outlined in red) volunteer responder- responding to emergency incidents when available. The position is responsible for performing wildland fire suppression operations and rescue and recovery under the direct supervision of the Company Officer, Group or Division Supervisor, or Incident Commander. Posting will close to applicants at 12 noon M.S.T. on Monday, July 13th.
Specifically, this position:
- Participates in wildland fire suppression duties.
- Participates in 18 hours of department business every 6 months.
- Administers first aid to ill or injured individuals and those overcome by fire and smoke, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when necessary.
- Ensures the response readiness and operating reliability of all firefighting, communication, and personal protective equipment assigned.
- Participates in the rescue and recovery of trapped persons, utilizing specialized equipment and/or other operational needs as determined by the Incident Commander.
- Meets training standards for all certifications that are possessed by the firefighter.
The Volunteer Wildland/EMS Firefighter must have the ability to:
- Learn wildland suppression operations and the use of emergency equipment.
- Learn and apply standard firefighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention techniques.
- Perform strenuous or peak physical activities during emergency, training, or station maintenance activities for prolonged periods of time under conditions of extreme heights, intense heat, cold, or smoke.
- Act effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
- Effectively communicate and follow verbal and written instructions in the English language.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record

Required After Hire
- S-130/190, L-180 within 12 months of appointment
- NIMS ICS 100/200/700/800 within 12 months of appointment
- Current Healthcare Provider CPR Certification within 12 months of appointment
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certification within 12 months of appointment
- Successful completion of a VFIS Emergent Drivers Training course

An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment driving record and criminal background check, a functional assessment, and drug screen. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which LFRA tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
