About Kodama Systems

Kodama Systems builds new tools for the people who work in the woods. Our main product enables loggers to operate skidders remotely and safely. We work directly with logging crews to make forestry work more productive, efficient, and less dangerous. Our team includes loggers, firefighters, engineers, and mechanics: people who know how hard this work is and are building tech that actually helps. If you like solving problems, working with machines, and spending time in the field, you’ll fit right in.

Position Description

Kodama Systems is seeking a go-getter to support the deployment and maintenance of our semi-autonomous forestry machinery. This role is hands-on, travel-intensive, and critical to the successful operation of remotely controlled forest equipment. The ideal candidate is a “doer” with a bias toward action, a proven track record of solving tough problems, and is comfortable working on active logging sites.

Core Job Requirements

  • Strong communication skills; able to clearly convey technical issues, collaborate effectively, and make field observations

  • Experience managing risk in hazardous environments (forestry background preferred)

  • Competency in machine operations, forestry, engineering, construction or other operationally challenging fields

  • Willingness to travel frequently for deployments and on-site support. This job involves significant time on the road.

  • Work in rugged outdoor environments, including walking on uneven terrain, exposure to varying weather conditions, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and operate or inspect heavy machinery as needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage site setup, breakdown, and logistics for machine operations

  • Maintain on-the-ground relationships with partner logging and forestry crews

  • Deploy and troubleshoot technology related to remote and semi-autonomous machines such as radios, cameras, and computers

  • Communicate real-time site context to remote engineers and operations teams

Desired Skills

  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems

  • Experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment in forestry operations

  • Familiarity with forest or agricultural operations

  • Experience using computers, email, and software in a business context

  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, rapidly evolving environments

  • Proficiency with:

    • Power tools

    • Towing trailers

    • Driving motor vehicles on forest roads

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $65-85K, with potential for performance bonuses

  • Benefits: Comprehensive Package (including 401K, Health, Dental & Vision)

  • Equity: Early-stage equity package included as part of total compensation

  • Company-covered room and board for field deployments

  • Training in robotics systems and semi-autonomous machinery

  • Access to company tools, safety gear, and vehicles for job-related tasks

  • Opportunities for personal growth in a fast-paced, early-stage tech company

  • Work alongside a team of mission-driven engineers, operators, and forestry professionals
