GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Financial Accounting Manager will be responsible for organizing and overseeing Tribal financial records, including providing accurate and timely financial records with proper and adequate internal accounting controls. The Financial Accounting Manager will supervise accounting supervisor and accounts receivable.
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:
All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:
1. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.
2. Must be at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise stated on job description
3. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record
4. Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays
DUTIES:
Under the direct supervision of the CFO, the Financial Accounting Manager will perform the following specific duties:
1. Organize and oversee safekeeping of Tribal financial records.
2. Develop internal accounting controls for financial processes of the Finance Department and other Community departments.
3. Coordinate with finance staff daily, weekly, monthly, and annual financial reporting schedules and enforce strict deadlines for completion.
4. Work with staff and external auditors in coordinating the fiscal year-end audit.
5. Work with program and finance management in resolving difficult accounting issues.
6. Prepare monthly bank reconciliation of all of the Tribe’s cash accounts.
7. Assist in developing and implementing efficient management procedures as necessary to ensure the adequacy and accuracy of the accounting system.
8. Review all financial records for completeness and accuracy to ensure financial data and records are maintained in a current status, including contracts and grants, journals, ledgers, supportive documents, budget revisions, and pertinent financial information.
9. Complete monthly analyses of balance sheet accounts and prepare journal entries for accruals and deferrals.
10. Attend all meetings and/or training as required.
11. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
12. Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
13. Required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
14. Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
15. May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. The applicant must be able to meet one of the following qualifications:
A. A bachelor’s degree in accounting and five years accounting experience.
B. An associate’s degree in accounting and over eight years’ accounting experience.
2. Must be able to demonstrate progressive responsibility in previous work experience.
3. Experience in revising financial systems and procedures to gain efficiency.
4. Experience using Sage Intacct is preferred.
5. Proven ability to understand and interpret complex fund accounting information.
6. Previous experience in working with Tribal programs or organizations is preferred.
7. Possess effective organizational and communication skills.
8. All information within the financial department is confidential; a violation of confidentiality will be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the Personnel Policies and Procedures.
9. Obtain and maintain coverage under the employer’s Employee Dishonesty policy.
10. Must be willing to attend all applicable training.
11. Must pass pre-employment drug and health screening. Must adhere to the Tribe’s Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment
12. Must be eligible for coverage under the employer’s liability insurance.
13. Must have demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory working record in any prior or current employment.
14. Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.
15. Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. This position requires a lot of sitting with occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
2. Evening and/or weekend is required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
3. Work environment requires excellent personal hygiene due to working in close proximity to others and in an enclosed area.
4. A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or TB Skin Test may be required.
