Geospatial Project Manager

Primary Location: Home Based

Reports To: Director of Flight Operations

Position Level: Management

FLSA Status: Salaried; Exempt

Travel: Less than 5%

Schedule: Monday - Friday, some holidays

Position Summary:

The Geospatial Project Manager is responsible for managing assigned aircraft and flight crew to successfully complete customer fixed-wing aerial mapping projects on schedule and on budget. Project Managers will know all company procedures and policies, and ensure they are being followed and completed at all times. They will exemplify our safety culture and promote safe and smart decision making. This position will be expected to have day-to-day collaboration with flight crews, maintenance, clients, and other parties. They will also assist in coordinating FBO and maintenance accommodations for future projects of the company.

Essential Functions:

  • These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the Company.
  • Monitor weather systems and patterns continuously for multiple locations.
  • Work with the Flight Operations Department to determine aviation limitations for both daily and large scale collection program.
  • Work with the Company Maintenance Department to maximize aircraft availability.
  • Develop and communicate the criteria for successful capture of projects and aircraft staging.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned flight crews and aircraft for daily project management.
  • Set various daily tasks for flight crews to complete.
  • Monitor and compile information from various departments to determine daily objectives for the capture program.
  • Coordinate with the Flight Operations management on accommodations at project sites across the country.
  • Maintain accurate company and client records.
  • Communicate with third party vendors and verify appropriate accommodations for the aircraft location.
  • Support long term fleet decisions based on project deadlines and priorities. Serve as day-to-day contact of the pilots.

Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with clients to understand project specific capture requirements and communicate to flight crews and other required parties.
  • Support flight crews on the ground and in flight via Satcomm.
  • Manage multiple client objectives, movements, and planning in conjunction with flight crews on the road.
  • Support the development of procedures and documentation for the Flight Operations Department in compliance with FAA regulations and other laws.
  • Ensure client satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other duties:

Other duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support and enforce company safety parameters.
  • Work set times Monday - Friday as dictated by client needs and available project times each year.
  • Communicate predetermined aircraft movement to flight crews based on client needs, including last-minute destination changes.
  • Coordinate aircraft hangar space and maintenance availability for new projects.
  • Work both independently and with other teams.
  • Attend regularly required company meetings and training, completing training in the allotted time.
  • Provide recommendations to alter Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training processes to ensure the highest level of safety.

Professional Requirements:

  • Legal right to work in the United States
  • Must be able to travel freely within the United States and without restriction to all countries Sol Aerial Survey serves
  • Understanding of Aerial Survey and Aviation best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Experience:

  • Background in Safety Operations
  • Management: 1 year
  • Aerial Survey: 1 year
  • FAA Commercial Pilots License
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Project Management certification (PMP is preferred)

  • Physical Exertion: The incumbent may be required to lift up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Vision: Requirements of this job include close and distant vision.
