About Frontline Wildfire Defense

Founded in 2017, Frontline developed the first fully integrated wildfire defense system to stop the leading cause of home loss in wildfires: ember-driven ignition. The system combines exterior sprinklers, full-coverage design, and connected software for remote monitoring and response, allowing homes to protect themselves long after families evacuate or infrastructure fails.

Proven effective during the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, 96% of homes with Frontline systems survived. That success has earned top industry recognition, including Frontline being recognized as one of TIME’s Best Inventions 2025 in the Green Tech category and receiving the PCBC Gold Nugget Award for “Most Innovative Housing Concept” and the Best of IBS Award for “Best Home Technology.”

As wildfires grow hotter and more frequent, our vision is to give people the tools and strategies to live safely with fire. We’re building a mission-driven team creating real-world solutions in wildfire safety and climate tech.

About This Opportunity

As Frontline’s Technical Writer, you will create the documentation that keeps a fast-growing, field-deployed hardware and software company running consistently and safely. Frontline’s installation process spans complex hydraulic systems, electrical components, and industrial network connected controllers - and as the company scales nationally, clear, accurate, and well-organized documentation becomes critical to training new installers, standardizing field work, and maintaining quality across every project.

This is a full-time role that partners closely with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain the technical documentation that supports Frontline's operations and continued growth. You will partner with Solutions Engineering, Installation Operations, and Product teams to develop clear, accurate, and scalable documentation, including foundational SOPs, installation guides, and other technical process documentation that supports the organization's operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Develop and write clear, accurate Standard Operating Procedures for installation, verification, and troubleshooting/diagnostics workflows
  • Interview subject matter experts across Installation Operations, Solutions Engineering, and Product to capture process detail accurately
  • Organize SOPs into a consistent, easy-to-navigate format that can scale as Frontline’s installer network grows

Installation & Field Documentation

  • Write and maintain installation guides that support field technicians in correctly deploying Frontline systems
  • Create supporting visuals, diagrams, and technical graphics to clarify complex installation steps
  • Update documentation based on field feedback, product changes, and lessons learned from completed installations
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostics - Symptom-cause-solution guides across hydraulic, electrical, power, and controller faults, mapped to controller indicators and telemetry

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Solutions Engineering and Product teams to ensure documentation reflects current system designs and components
  • Work with Installation Operations and field teams to validate that written procedures match real-world practice
  • Collaborate with Training and onboarding functions to ensure documentation supports new hire ramp-up

Process & Quality

  • Establish a consistent documentation style, format, and version-control process for Frontline’s growing library of SOPs and guides
  • Identify gaps in existing documentation and prioritize what to build first based on field and installation needs
  • Recommend tools or templates that improve documentation consistency and ease of use going forward
  • Verification and Commissioning - post-component and full-system checks with clear pass/fail criteria

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • 2–5+ years of experience in technical writing, with direct experience writing SOPs, installation guides, or field documentation
  • Experience working in or closely with manufacturing, construction, or field installation environments
  • Ability to translate complex technical processes - mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical - into clear, accurate, easy-to-follow documentation
  • Strong interviewing and information-gathering skills - comfortable working directly with engineers, technicians, and field staff to extract process detail
  • Excellent written communication skills, with strong attention to accuracy, consistency, and clarity
  • Proficiency with standard documentation and design tools (Microsoft Office/Google Workspace; familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Fusion 360, or similar a plus)
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with minimal day-to-day oversight.

Nice-to-Have

  • Background in manufacturing, product development, or technical support - particularly in hardware, automotive, or fire/life safety products
  • Experience with CAD or 3D modeling tools, or familiarity with reading technical drawings
  • Familiarity with version control or documentation management systems
  • Experience supporting field installation teams or technical support functions directly
  • Interest in or experience with climate tech, fire protection, or wildfire mitigation industries

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $85,000–$105,000 DOE
  • Company-provided cell phone and laptop
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Flexible time off + 14 paid holidays (yes, your birthday is one of them!)
  • Work-from-home stipend to support your remote setup
  • 100% remote role with a remote-first culture, with frequent travel required to support business operations
  • Company-provided equipment
  • Join a high-performing, mission-driven team doing work that truly matters
    And much more!
