Position Summary

TNC Minnesota is hiring a permanent Northwoods Fire Module Leader to start early March 2026. The Northwoods Fire Module is entering its third year based in the Ely Fireshed. The Module is part of an ongoing fire management collaboration led by the Superior National Forest and enthusiastically supported by many government agencies, non-profit, and tribal partners. The Module Leader will work closely with USFS near the border of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, cooperatively implementing projects imperative to forest health and community risk reduction.

Key Responsibilities

• Northwoods Module work includes creating and improving burn unit firebreaks
• Thinning strategic locations with chainsaws and brush saws
• Cooperatively implementing prescribed burns, building and burning piles, and delivering training.
• The Module participates in community fire workshops and supports partner capacity building.
• The Module Leader will participate in out-of-state assignments and collaborate with other TNC prescribed fire modules in Minnesota and Wisconsin
