We use innovative, science-based solutions to meet the challenges of forest conservation and management.

Job Description

The Forest Stewards Guild seeks a detail-oriented, collaborative, and individually motivated Southwest Project Coordinator to support community wildfire resilience, community engagement, and forest stewardship across central and northern New Mexico.

This position will support two cornerstone efforts — the Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) in the Greater Santa Fe Fireshed and the Fire Adapted New Mexico Learning Network (FACNM) — working closely with the Fireshed Coordinator and the Fire Adapted Communities Coordinator.

The Project Coordinator will work directly with Guild staff, partners, and community members to expand on existing wildfire risk reduction and outreach programs in New Mexico.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting Home Hazard Assessments for private landowners and residents.
  • Assisting the Fireshed Coordinator with facilitation of fuels mitigation projects.
  • Supporting the Fireshed Ambassador Network to expand peer-to-peer community engagement.
  • Supporting statewide wildfire adaptation through the FAC program.

In addition to program-specific duties, the Coordinator will provide general support across the Southwest office, assisting with event preparation, communications, and day-to-day project needs.

This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, adaptable, and enthusiastic about both community-facing work and behind-the-scenes coordination. The best fit is someone interested in hands-on experience at the intersection of wildfire resilience, forestry, and community collaboration.

  • Support implementation of fuels mitigation projects and wildfire preparedness-related community outreach efforts in collaboration with partners.

Fire Adapted Communities (FAC) Program Support

  • Assist the FAC Coordinator in managing the statewide Fire Adapted New Mexico Learning Network, including producing public education materials, facilitating peer-to-peer communication, organizing in-person and virtual learning opportunities, and assisting with community outreach.
  • Support planning, outreach, and logistics for FAC workshops, trainings, and peer-learning exchanges.
  • Help manage network communications, including newsletters, resource sharing, and website updates.
  • Work with the FAC Coordinator and partners to support the development of a statewide Fire Adaptation Ambassadors network.
  • Support the development of a Southwest Resilience Strategy to guide the direction of the NM FAC Learning Network, NM Women Owning Woodlands, and other forest and fire resilience programs over the next five years.

General Southwest Office Support

  • Provide broad, flexible support to other Southwest Region Guild staff working on wildfire resilience, prescribed fire, youth engagement, collaborative forest restoration, and watershed projects.
  • Assist with program support and administrative tasks such as: Preparing training materials Assembling outreach materials and event readiness Maintaining office organization, supplies, Guild truck maintenance, and mileage tracking
