JOB SUMMARY: A Vegetation Management (VM) Technician is responsible for managing and maintaining vegetation to ensure the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of utility rights-of-way (ROW), roadways, various industrial, rural, and natural areas. Their role primarily focuses on the control of invasive plants, unwanted vegetation, and ensuring vegetation does not interfere with power lines, roads, or natural areas.

  • Conduct field surveys assessing vegetation health, growth patterns, and potential risks to infrastructure, various industrial, rural, and natural areas.
  • Maintain herbicide safety protocols, handling herbicides with responsibility, care, and caution, as per regulatory requirements.
  • Mix and apply herbicides or other treatments as needed to control invasive species or vegetation.
  • Cover areas to specified depths with pesticides, herbicide, fungicides or insecticides, applying knowledge of weather conditions, droplet sizes, elevation-to-distance ratios, and obstructions.
  • Maintain accurate records of vegetation management activities, including treatment areas, products used, and results.
  • Promote awareness of invasive species and integrated vegetation management practices to the public on a day-to-day basis.
  • Collect and interpret vegetation population data and monitor control efficacy.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions and terrains.
  • Operate specialized equipment such as herbicide sprayers, both tank and backpack.
  • Work closely with utility companies, contractors, and environmental agencies to develop and implement vegetation management plans.
  • Ability to complete job duties in physically strenuous and varying terrains.
  • Ensure all vegetation management practices comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Follow safety protocols while working in potentially hazardous environments (e.g., near power lines or traffic).
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local municipal laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Eocene Environmental Group culture of safety and employee ownership.

  • Position will require travel to, from and between work sites.
  • Safely operate trucks, ATVs, UTVs

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 1 year experience in vegetation management.
  • State pesticide applicators license (any state)
  • Must possess a Valid Drivers.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment drug screening.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to acquire the required State pesticide applicator license
  • Ability to work outside and in a range of weather conditions
  • Possesses the ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis and up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Organization of equipment before, during and after shifts as needed.
  • Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast paced, and ever-changing environment.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks as new situations continue to emerge.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors
  • Decision making, organizational, and time management skills
  • Demonstrate excellent focus on rapport-building, listening, questioning and patience.
