JOB SUMMARY: A Vegetation Management Crew Lead is responsible for supervising a team of field technicians focused on controlling and managing invasive plant species. This role combines hands-on fieldwork with leadership duties to ensure effective implementation of invasive plant control measures. The crew lead oversees the daily activities of the crew, ensures that safety and environmental standards are met, and works closely with other stakeholders or project managers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead and direct a team of field technicians in executing invasive plant management tasks.
  • Assign daily tasks to crew members based on the project’s goals, ensuring tasks are completed on time and according to safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Oversee and participate in the identification, assessment, and treatment of invasive plant species.
  • Ensure that invasive species management techniques are applied properly and that the methods used are appropriate for specific site conditions.
  • Maintain herbicide safety protocols, handling herbicides with responsibility, care, and caution, as per regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor crew members’ performance, provide constructive feedback, and ensure team cohesion.
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, ensuring all crew members use appropriate protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety procedures when working with chemicals in hazardous conditions (e.g., near roads, power lines).
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and on-site training sessions for the crew.
  • Collaborate with project managers, landowners, environmental agencies, or other stakeholders to coordinate tasks, communicate progress, and address challenges related to invasive plant management projects.
  • Keep accurate records of invasive plant management activities, including areas treated, techniques used, herbicides applied, and any challenges encountered.
  • Provide regular progress updates to project managers or supervisors, including reporting on crew productivity and any issues that may affect project timelines or outcomes.
  • Oversee all inventory and ensure all equipment is in good working order.
  • Make decisions on the most appropriate vegetation management techniques based on site-specific conditions, weather, and regulations.
  • Assist Project Manager in keeping projects within the allotted budget.
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and municipal laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Eocene Environmental Group culture of safety and employee ownership.

  • Position will require travel to, from and between work sites.
  • Safely operate trucks, ATVs, UTVs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Herbicide Applicator License (any state)
  • 2 years’ experience in Invasive Vegetation Management.
  • Valid Driver license.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment drug screening.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Supervisory experience ensuring production targets are met while meeting financial targets.
  • Experience in ensuring compliance and implementation of safety standards.
  • Ability to acquire the required state pesticide applicator.
  • Ability to work outside and in a range of weather conditions.
  • Possesses the ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis and up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Organization of equipment before, during and after shifts as needed.
  • Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast paced, and ever-changing environment.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks as new situations continue to emerge.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors.
  • Decision making, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent focus on rapport-building, listening, questioning and patience.
