The Senior Project Manager (Sr PM) position has single point accountability or can be under general direction of a Sr. Project Director or Project Director. The position is accountable for the assigned new generation project with moderate to high levels of risk. The Project will be executed by an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), Contractor and typically involve complex but mature technology and moderate complexity to be supplied by Duke Energy. Sr PM position is responsible for management, or assisting management, of all phases of project planning and execution to ensure project success factors are met. These include but are not limited to scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, safety, communications, security, and integration. In addition, this position is highly involved in the funding management and budgeting of the project / program responsible.
This position may have direct and matrixed reports consisting of Project Managers, Project Controls and/or other resources such as construction management, engineering, administrative support staff and contingent workers. Sr PM’s are accountable to various stakeholders that include Project Management and Construction (PMC) functional level management in addition to Senior Management, and possibly External Agencies. Sr PM’s serve as unifying agent providing leadership, decision making, management, guidance, direction, coordination, and control of overall projects in accordance with established Project Management and Construction (PMC) policies, procedures, systems, and the requirements of the Company and its regulators.
This is a leadership position and minimum qualifications must be met to be placed within this position. Progression to this level is based on experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, and restricted on the basis of Business Unit needs to manage the portfolio.
Responsibilities
Create / Staff / Lead Project Team. Sr PM's provide leadership, oversight, direction and management of the EPC; delegation and coordination with various internal and external organizations that are providing services to the project (Development, Engineering, Project Controls, Estimating, Construction Management, Supply Chain, Legal, EHS, QA/QC, Operations, Communications, Stakeholder Engagement, Regulatory, Security, Fuels, Transmission, etc.). Sr PMs manage matrixed members of the team daily. They interface with functional leaders of matrixed team members regarding placement, development and conflict resolution.
Establish and maintain communications among all project/programs stakeholders. Structure, lead, or assist in project related meetings to ensure open communication between team members, key stakeholders, and management. Prepare, communicate or report monthly project status, kickoff meetings, weekly and monthly required communication. Assure Project Plans with appropriate reporting means are developed and communicated according to PMCoE Standards and PMC policies and procedures. Effectively communicate with appropriate management / governance team.
Execute projects according to plans within approved scope, cost and schedule constraints. Includes objectives, stakeholders, scope, roles and responsibilities, assumptions and constraints, deliverables, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), schedule, external communication, regulatory strategy, procurement strategy, contractor and supplier strategy, resource plans, budget, lessons learned, risk plan, quality plan, safety plan, environmental plan, security plan, integration plan, data management plan, communications and reporting plan, change management, and project close out.
Effective Presentation Skills. Ability to create, develop and deliver project / business case presentations to Senior Management / project sponsors.
Required/Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
7 plus years related work experience
In lieu of Bachelor's degree(s) AND 7 plus year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 11 plus year(s) related work experience
Desired Qualifications
Master's degree in Project management or Business Administration
In addition to desired degree, 5-years related work experience
Professional Engineer and/or Project Management Professional
Additional Preferred Qualifications

Projects related work experience; Risk Management; Leadership; Employee Management/Development; Oversight

Working Conditions
Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite location at the Project site after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
