This position is responsible for all duties associated with and related to the safe, efficient and cost-effective installation and maintenance of natural gas facilities and appurtenances on both transmission and distribution natural gas systems per 49CFR Part 192, Piedmont Natural Gas policies and procedures and local/state regulations. This position is responsible for all duties associated with and related to the safe, efficient and cost-effective tapping and stopping of natural gas pipelines and crane operations. Responsible for all other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities:
The following list is not intended to be all inclusive of duties and responsibilities as needed and required.
Tapping and stopping of all gas lines utilizing Mueller and TDW style equipment and fittings.
Operates a mobile crane and other heavy equipment, including articulating boom cranes and fixed cab cranes.
Pre-inspecting proposed work locations and/or installations
Performing work assignments in a manner which properly safeguards the public, employees and property of others and Company.
Perform work coordinator duties for multiple crews.
Instructing assigned employees on the job site in their work, in safety, and on standard work practices and procedures as a regular duty.
Support the Fabrication team as needed. i.e. Material receiving and delivery, material traceability verification, hydrotesting, etc.
This position is required to perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
High School diploma or GED
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
Computer skills working in a Windows environment
Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills and safety awareness
Must possess and maintain valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class A) and NCCCO crane certification per OSHA standards
Must have and maintain forklift certification
Must show good judgement in operating cranes in a safe manner when operating close to overhead wires and obstructions
Must be able to travel, including staying out of town, work overtime hours, including weekends and holidays
Preferred Skills and Abilities
Previous hot tapping experience
Previous crane experience or certification
Knowledge and experience using Maximo
Physical Requirements:
Must work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
Lifting up to 75 lbs
Frequent walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, stooping, crawling, standing, digging, climbing
Works on uneven terrain, many times with heavy vegetation
Manual dexterity (hand/eye coordination)
Keen eyesight
Good hearing
Good sense of smell
Comes in frequent contact with insects and animals
Ability to use breathing apparatus when performing tapping/stopping operations, as required
Other Requirements:
Weekend and evening work as required. Subject to overtime and must be available for call-out and emergency response. Some rotating shifts.
