Job Summary

On a rotating shift schedule, the Combined Cycle Operator III (CCO III) is responsible for the coordination, and the safe and efficient operation, of the generating units at the Citrus CC Power Station, to include HRSGs and all associated balance of plant equipment. The incumbent will be responsible for achieving the minimal level of required CCO III operations skill tasks in the operation of the Citrus Country Combined Cycle power station. The incumbent is also required to perform extensive duties in water chemistry.

Employees bidding the CCO classifications will not be able to bid out of the position for a period of 36 months after becoming Control Board qualified.

Qualifications

  • Must first have been qualified as a journeyman operator at a combined cycle combustion turbine power station.
  • Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) Test at the Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) level
  • Successful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) Test
  • Must also demonstrate a progression skill level of competence from selected journeyman tasks in the following three maintenance fields: electrical, instrumentation and controls, and mechanical, which is referred to the Operator Maintenance Qualification.
  • Must be fully competent in power station operations; incumbent must also be well versed in the underlying theoretical applications of thermodynamics.
  • Also required is a complete understanding of power station water chemistry functions and applications (e.g., proper sampling, analysis, and related instrument calibrations).
  • Excellent analysis and decision-making abilities required.

Required Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Experience

  • Must have worked as a journeyman operator at a combined cycle combustion turbine power station.
  • Or, must possess military experience/technical school training (e.g., ancillary power operations), or, previous work experience equivalent to a journeyman skill that may be assessed at a Journeyman level.

Required Licenses And/or Certificates

  • Valid Florida driver’s license

Working Conditions

  • Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility.
  • Employees shall live within one (1) hour travel time of the plant. Employees already holding positions in other organizations represented by the Union shall make a permanent move within nine (9) months after reporting to the plant.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts to cover a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week operation, around rotating and energized equipment, outdoors and indoors, in hot and cold temperature extremes under limited supervision.
  • Must be available for callouts and long working hours.
  • Ability to move frequently to unload equipment and to install/maintain/repair equipment
  • Must be able to work around rotating equipment
  • Ability to work in the field with exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, and humidity
  • This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to push/pull weights up to 75 lbs
  • Manual dexterity to operate small hand tools, turn small knobs, etc.
  • Ability to sit for 2-3 hours; may be driving a truck
  • Ability to stand a minimum of 5-6 hours
  • Ability to frequently climb or use authorized equipment to reach various heights
  • Ability to frequently and repetitively bend/stoop/squat
  • Must be able to read construction drawings and prints
