The LA County Board of Supervisors has unanimously ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency in response to the windstorms and wildfires, including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, that have devastated communities across the County. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to assist the County in mobilizing resources and support needed to help our residents recover and rebuild. The Office of the Assessor is seeking qualified candidates to fill the emergency Senior Secretary V vacancy related to this unprecedented natural disaster.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Sr. Secretary V.
Essential Job Functions
-
Reviews and responds to both verbal and written communications received by the Chief of Staff. Appropriately refers members of the public to the appropriate Assessor subdepartment or other County property tax department.
Coordinates, calendars, and tracks the Chief of Staff’s meetings and other appointments.
Coordinates conference travel arrangements for Public Affairs staff as needed.
- Keeps track of projects and other work assigned to Public Affairs staff by the Chief of Staff.
Reviews language for documents and correspondence issued to the public and staff for spelling, grammar,formatting, accuracy, and readability, and provides feedback.
Reviews documents submitted for the Chief of Staff’s signature or approval.
Ensures that adequate supplies of resources/materials are maintained for public outreach purposes and are reordered when needed.
Assists with coordination of division staff where appropriate.
Assists Chief of Staff with review, tracking, and routing of administrative documents.
Requirements
- REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:
One year of highly responsible* secretarial experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Secretary V, Senior Secretary III, Senior Secretary IV, Management Secretary I or Management Secretary II - OR - One year of supervisory specialized experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Supervising Sheriff Station Clerk - OR - One year of experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Staff Assistant I assisting the manager of a line operation in a County department - OR - Two years of highly responsible secretarial experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Secretary III, Secretary IV, Senior Secretary I or Senior Secretary II - OR - Two years of highly responsible legal secretarial experience.
Note: You MUST meet the above requirement(s) in order to be appointed to fill any vacancies related to this recruitment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*Highly responsible is defined as the role involving significant accountability, often including tasks that have a direct impact on the organization or require trust and discretion, such as managing confidential documents or representing executives in communications.
OTHER REQUIREMENT:
Ability to type at the rate of 40 net words per minute.IMPORTANT TYPING TEST INFORMATION:
A qualifying typing performance test of 40 net words-per-minute will be administered to applicants who have not held a typing position in the service of the County of Los Angeles. Applicants must successfully complete the typing performance test at time of filing to qualify.
Applicants who have taken and passed the required performance test administered by another County department must attach a copy of their typing certificate or typing test result email to their application at the time of filing OR email it within seven (7) calendar days from the date of application filing to Recruitment@assessor.lacounty.gov.
Applicants who have not taken a typing test administered by the Los Angeles County can apply to the Typing Test-Score Banking Only announcement bulletin, consisting of a timed typing test designed to measure speed accuracy in typing.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
2 - Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

ASSESSMENT PROCESS:
During your initial work period, the appointing department will evaluate your performance. Those who achieve a passing score on this evaluation will be considered for permanent appointment.
