The LA County Board of Supervisors has unanimously ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency in response to the windstorms and wildfires, including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, that have devastated communities across the County. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to assist the County in mobilizing resources and support needed to help our residents recover and rebuild. The Department of Public Works is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Supervising Cadastral Engineer I vacancies related to this unprecedented natural disaster.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Supervising Cadastral Engineer I. Essential Job Functions

A Supervising Cadastral Engineer I is responsible for a combination of the following job functions:
- Makes work assignments through subordinate supervisors, issuing instructions and following through to insure conformance with established policies, procedures, legal requirements and priorities, and adherence to production standards.
- Supervises the production, maintenance and checking of cadastral, subdivision, substructure, house numbering, index, Assessor's and other types of maps.
- Supervises the checking of subdivision maps and records of surveys in accordance with the State Division Map Act, the Land Surveyor's Act, and County and city subdivision ordinances.
- Supervises the preparation of legal descriptions for establishing new property lines, roads, rights of way, easements, district and city boundaries.
- Supervises the determination of the location of property boundaries of substructures.
- Supervises the preparation of cadastral maps based upon the California Coordinate System.
- Supervises the preparation of condemnation and other maps and the determination of information to be shown, such as: areas, courses and distances, topography, easements, rights of way, boundaries and improvements.
- Supervises field surveys and the preparation of court exhibits as required.
- Supervises the checking of special assessment district petitions and the preparation of debt limit and district investigation reports.
- Assists in developing new and improved techniques for performing the work and trains subordinates in their use.

Requirements
- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSFour (4) years of professional civil engineering experience* or office engineering experience** in map drafting or checking, or in the preparation and interpretation of legal descriptions or proceedings, one year of which must have been at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Principal Survey Mapping Technician***, or Supervising Survey-Mapping Technician****.LICENSEA valid California Class "C" Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:*Professional civil engineering experience is defined as the professional practice of rendering service or creative work in connection with planning, designing, constructing, maintaining, and operating infrastructure as well as improving existing infrastructure.**Office engineering experience is defined as engineering tasks requiring an application of the basic fundamentals of engineering such as drafting, mapping, and mathematical computations to translate technical notes, sketches and calculations into construction drawings, maps, estimates, schedules, and reports.***Experience at the level of Los Angeles County Principal Survey Mapping Technician is defined as: performs specialized engineering work in survey analysis, the mapping of public and private lands, and the preparation of legal descriptions. For a fuller description of work performed, refer to County of Los Angeles Class Specification for Principal Survey Mapping Technician.****Experience at the level of Los Angeles County Supervising Survey-Mapping Technician is defined as: supervises a unit engaged in specialized paraprofessional office engineering and mapping activities related to the preparation and maintenance of maps of all types, boundary and survey analysis; and assists in the preparation and interpretation of legal land descriptions.
