Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) is seeking a Industrial Fire Prevention Forester (Wildland Fire Supervisor). This position will be stationed out of the CFPA Headquarters located in Coos Bay, Oregon.

Industrial Fire Prevention Forester duties include, but are not limited to:

Implementation and administration of industrial fire preparedness and prevention programs; analyze records of previous fire seasons to determine statistical information such as time of day, day of week, type of people, and/or activity that is most likely to lead to fire stats; develop industrial prevention plans based on statistical analysis; make presentations to landowners and our industrial partners; coordinate fire prevention and smoke management activities with other agencies, the issuance of burning permits and uniform citations, and is responsible for the execution of enforcement activities related to forest fire laws within assigned areas.

This person may be active in facilitating, participating and/or overseeing various district programs including, but not limited to Inventory, Smoke Management, Safety, Industrial Fire Prevention inspections, training and other assignments, programs, teams or committees in support of the district. You may be tasked to assist district units’ operational coverage. The ability to work with a wide variety of individuals and organizations, including ODF, BLM, USFS, BIA, County Boards of Commissioners, Industrial Landowners and Operators, Rural Fire Departments, small landowners and the general public will be required.

Administrative abilities and skills using various fire, forestry and computer programs and applications to complete projects, documentation and reports are required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Teams as well as programs such as Field Maps, ArcGIS, and Collector are preferred. Strong communications, office, human resource and customer service skills for dealing with the general public, local, state and federal agencies, fire departments, personnel, employees and landowners and then initiating the appropriate action depending on the situation and company policy may be required. You must have a working knowledge or the State of Oregon and Federal labor laws relating to private industry, a solid understanding of ORS Chapter 477 and a history of forest law enforcement or similar law enforcement activities as well as knowledge of forest fire prevention, suppression and mobilization principles and techniques.

This position requires driving a Coos Forest Protective Association vehicle; you must possess a valid driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record. Successful candidates will be subject to a driving background check with the Department of Motor Vehicles. Driving may require exposure to steep, narrow forest roads. Assignments to emergency incidents may require employees to be away from duty station for up to 21 days. Various shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours with short notice are required. Assignments to emergency incidents, work sessions or meetings may require being away from the assigned duty station for extended periods of time with travel throughout the State of Oregon or other states as assigned. Job duties may require occasional exposure to heavy equipment operations, aircraft, hazards of burning, and/or falling materials. The successful candidate will be tested to ensure physical conditioning via work capacity testing each spring at the arduous level.
