Purpose:
Conservation Corps New Mexico (CCNM), a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with AmeriCorps service and career internship opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants serve with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits to provide institutional capacity, develop community relationships, and support ecosystem health. CCNM is excited to host a Communication & Outreach Specialist to support CCNM with successful promotion and outreach by engaging corpsmembers and Southern New Mexico communities.
The Communication and Outreach Specialist (Specialist) will assist CCNM staff with recruitment and community events, creating and distributing print media, photo and video documentation of corpsmember projects, and providing a critical presence on CCNM social media platforms.
Description of Duties:
· Following Conservation Legacy’s organizational messaging structure, post social media content on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok.
· Develop and provide audience-appropriate presentations about CCNM to recruit, inform, and inspire the public.
· Participate in career fairs and community events such as the farmers market to promote CCNM program and opportunities.
· Create compelling partner outreach materials and program overview brochures.
· Develop stories in area newspapers, publications, and other media.
· Travel to visit corpsmembers in the field and obtain media content (may require day trips or overnight travel).
Qualifications:
· At least 18 years of age
· Valid U.S Driver’s License - Drivers must be over 21 or have had a license for at least 3 years.
· Education: Pursing or completing undergraduate degree in communication-related field.
· Language: English Speaking.
· Experience with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok.
· Experience developing communications resources, such as flyers, web pages, and communications plans.
· Experience with photo/video documentation.
· Interest in conservation field and learning about conservation projects.
· Willingness to travel and visit corpsmembers in the field.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently on project related work.
· Demonstrated confidence in navigating when to take initiative and seek support in workplace.
· Ability to attend in-person retreat from July 20-24 in Seattle, WA.
· United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.
· Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate
· Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check
Physical Requirements:

Time Requirements:
· Typically, this position is expected to serve full-time, 35-40 hours per week, but exact service schedules may vary. A half hour lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service.
· Outside employment is allowed, as long as it does not interfere with work hours.
· Work hours are expected to fall between 7AM and 7PM local time, flexibility provided within this window.
Orientation and Training:
· Member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities.
· Member will receive a Virtual Member Orientation (VMO) from VISTA on their first day of service.

Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate, performance will be evaluated on whether the Summer Associate has completed the required number of hours, whether the Summer Associate has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the Summer Associate has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
