Purpose:
Stewards Individual Placements, a division of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with AmeriCorps service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural and cultural resources.
Weir Farm National Historical Park, the only National Park Service site dedicated to American painting, is one of the nation’s finest remaining landscapes of American art. The park offers an abundance of exciting, fun programs to the public, including art workshops and special tours. Weir Farm National Historical Park's mission is to preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. Specifically, to preserve and provide opportunities for visitors to preserve a significant site of the tradition of American Impressionism; maintain the integrity of a setting that inspired artistic expression and to offer opportunities for the inspirational benefit and education of the American people.
Stewards Individual Placements, in partnership with Weir Farm National Historical Park, is seeking an AmeriCorps Member who will join the dynamic team at Weir Farm National Historical Park (NHP) for an unforgettable adventure as a Visitor Service Member! This service role is perfect for enthusiastic young professionals eager to make a difference and those passionate about preserving national parks.
Train as a front-line interpreter, lead public programs, work hands-on with museum collections, conduct research, complete projects to engage in-park and virtual visitors, increase visitor understanding of natural & cultural resources, and contribute to Cyclic Maintenance and grounds projects. The Visitor Service Member will be part of the Visitor Service Team at Weir Farm NHP; they will lead programs for the public, including service-learning activities that are meaningful, relevant, and fun. The position will have real-world impacts on park resources, public programs, and community engagement; all increasing the reach for the Weir Farm NHP.
Description of Duties:
To achieve the goals of this position, the AmeriCorps Member will:
- · Lead exciting public programs, including tours of the Weir House, hands-on service-learning projects, and engaging curriculum-based education activities
- · Be the face of Weir Farm NHP at the visitor center, and the Weir and Young Studios, providing information and informal interpretation to visitors
- · Contribute your creativity to the park’s web-based, digital, and social media platforms
- · Participate in vibrant public outreach programs
- · Support the Art in the Park program by assisting with art workshops and managing art supplies
- · Lead groups of enthusiastic students during educational activities
- · Undertake a unique engagement project based on your skills and interests, such as a web-based tour, publication, or other innovative projects aimed at engaging
- · Collaborate with curatorial, facilities, and natural resource divisions, occasionally assisting with gardens and grounds maintenance or museum collections work
Qualifications:
- United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien
- Be between the ages of 18-30 (or up to age 35 with Veteran status)
- Has received a High School diploma
- Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check
- Able to commit to 24 weeks of AmeriCorps service
- Ability to interact with public; especially youth
- Communication skills, both interpersonal and written
- Ability to embrace outdoor work in various weather conditions
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently or as a member of a team
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- · Visitor Services experience is a plus
- Must be willing to drive department vehicles and possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving history

Time Requirements:
- Typically, this position is expected to serve 5 days/week, sometimes including weekends and holidays, but exact service schedules may vary. A half hour lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service hours
- Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term
Orientation and Training:
- Member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities
- On-site job training on Intro to History of NPS and Weir Farm NHP
- On-the-job training on Operational Leadership
- Interpretation 101
- CPR & First Aid

Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
