Title: Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps – Wood For Life Project Manager

Starting Salary Range: The starting salary for this position will be in the $55,300 – $56,959 range, depending on experience, education, and skills relevant to the position. Please note that the indicated starting salary range describes the range for an incumbent in this position. Most new staff generally start at the beginning of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.

Location: Partially remote eligible. This position will require frequent travel to the Navajo Nation, Hopi Nation, and Flagstaff, AZ.

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Program Summary:

Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) is a program of Conservation Legacy (CL). ALCC provides conservation service opportunities for indigenous youth, young adults, and recent-era military veterans in Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona and works with other Native American communities and conservation corps across the country to provide similar opportunities. Our vision is to lead our Nations back to ecological and cultural well-being and we do this by empowering individuals to positively impact their lives, their communities, and the environment. AL’s crews are supported from operational bases in Acoma Pueblo, Albuquerque, Zuni Pueblo, Gallup, and Kykotsmovi (Hopi), and operates an Individual Placement program that serves the Region and Nation.

Position Summary:

The Wood For Life Project Manager’s primary responsibilities are to assure effective management and mobilization of ALCC Programing in partnership with the Wood for Life Initiative. Tasks include: supervise staff working in specific ALCC Program Offices; ensure that ALCC program participants meet risk management and quality standards and expectations; develop partnerships and programs with local, state, federal, and Tribal partners; ensure crews are both supported and prepared to maintain safety, program integrity, and quality projects in the field; ensure Crew Leaders and Corpsmembers receive technical skills, risk management, and leadership training; and oversee the development of ALCC initiated projects, partnerships, budgets, scheduling, fundraising.

Outcomes & Functions of Position:

Program Development, Oversight, and Implementation

  • Develop and maintain partner relationships, communications, and coordination with the projects that are overseen by this position.
  • Work with ALCC staff to develop and implement Crew Leader and Corpsmember Trainings and Orientations.
  • Assist crews with technical support when needed.
  • Work with numerous partners to plan and support Wood Bank Individual Placement position (IPs) in Navajo, Hopi, and other tribal communities.
  • Provide operations and logistics oversight to the Wood For Life Firewood Initiative.
  • Work with ALCC, and other Conservation Legacy staff to schedule and coordinate projects.
    Manage multiple databases for projects.
  • Support a strong member experience through mentorship, technical support, and risk management.
    Provide technical expertise, guidance, program support, and identify positive working solutions to crew management issues with program staff.
  • Maintain innovative programs that meet the needs of local community and partner.
  • Ensure project quality and quantity.
  • Facilitate and coordinate the establishment of “Wood Banks” with villages and ChaptersModel risk management procedures in the field to create a safe working environment.
  • Enforce all ALCC Policies and Procedures.
  • Respond to crew emergency situations.
  • Participate in a weekly on-call system for crews in the field.

General Administration and Management

  • Work with the Executive Director and Philanthropy Coordinator to develop and manage WFL project
  • budget, write grants to secure additional funding, and report deliverables to agency and funding partners.
  • Ensure spending remains within the established WFL project budget and report purchases to the Program Director.
  • Supervise full time regular staff and seasonal employees.
  • Identify Staff Development opportunities for direct reports.
  • Ensure staff complete and enter project-related data into systems.
  • Approve direct reports’ credit card reconciliations, approve timesheets, and complete other supervisory tasks.

Organizational Advocacy:

  • Successfully engages, leads, and supports a positive work environment for all within the organization and the communities we serve.
  • Leads and/or participates in organizational-wide teams, projects and initiatives that support the work of the Strategic Plans goals.
  • Reports any potential complaints within the organization as identified in the Personnel Policy Manual.
  • Assists or leads other responsibilities, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in management of conservation corps or similar programming.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in project implementation and management.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Communications or related field.
  • Experience with influencing varied stakeholders to achieve common goals.
  • Flexibility, adaptability and capacity to work in a fluid, changing work environment.
  • The ability to carry out assigned work independently or with minimal supervision.
    The ability to communicate effectively, manage complexity cultivate innovation, drive and influence results of oneself and others.
  • Ability to work well with others and to seek assistance when needed to carry out assignments.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office programs and applications, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to keep others and oneself, in remote locations, accountable to expectations.
  • Valid Driver’s License and Insurable Driving Record per Personnel Policies.
  • Must be able to pass the organization’s criminal history check requirements.
  • Ability to successfully work in a fluid, changing work environment.
