SECC programs encourage environmental stewardship, foster community partnerships, and emphasize experiential learning.
The National Park Service: preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The National Park Service cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.

The service will benefit the community and environment by creating and preserving safe, natural areas for outdoor recreation and enjoyment by visitors of all ages. The individual placement will primarily involve controlling invasive plants in imperiled cobble bar/river scour habitat along streams in both Big South Fork NRRA and Obed WSR. Seventy-five percent of the world's habitat of cobble bar/river scour occurs within these two national parks. Protection of these habitats is paramount to the survival of several sensitive plant species, including two listed species.
