Starting Salary: 20.55/hr

Location: Chattanooga, TN. Part-time remote eligible

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Program Summary:

Southeast Conservation Corps (SECC) operates conservation service programs throughout the Southeast that focus on meeting the needs of the natural landscapes while empowering youth and adults to cultivate compassion, responsibility, and life skills through community service, hard work, and land stewardship. As a corps program, SECC partners with public land managers to identify, plan and complete projects that improve public access, habitat quality, and economic development. SECC is a program of Conservation Legacy, a nationwide network of conservation service organizations founded to move forward the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Position Summary:

The Southeast Conservation Corps (SECC) Recruitment Coordinator will be responsible for all SECC recruitment implementation: recruitment practices, conducting interviews, and selecting all SECC crew Corps member participants. Additionally, this position will work to build and expand existing relationships and partnerships to develop recruitment pathways, including attending in-person outreach events. Frequent regional travel is required for this position with some overnight trips related to recruitment, member support, and member training.

Outcomes & Functions of Position:

Recruitment

  • Receive, review applications, conduct interviews, check references, and select candidates for all youth and adult crew program positions.
  • Develop and maintain job postings, job descriptions, applications, program flyers, and other recruitment related materials that reflect current recruitment needs.
  • Member onboarding support and backup.
  • Maintain SECC recruitment resource guide and set, evaluate, and adjust strategies in order to meet recruitment needs across the program.
  • Communicate recruitment needs to all SECC staff in a timely manner.
  • Provide recruitment support for staff positions as requested.
  • Track recruitment platforms for efficacy, suggest, and track improvements.
  • Enhance SECC visibility in Chattanooga, TN and across the Southeast region.
  • Promote SECC as well as Conservation Legacy mission, programs, and achievements.
  • Collaborate with the Conservation Legacy Recruitment Rendezvous group to improve and grow recruitment across programs.
  • Work directly with Recruitment Leadership staff to enhance SECC’s recruitment process.
  • Track quarterly demographics of starts and note any trends to SECC staff.
  • Track annual attrition and note trends with SECC staff team.

Community Outreach

  • Develop and provide clear, concise, and audience appropriate presentations for the public to recruit, inform, and inspire.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners by scheduling school visits, attending career fairs, community events, and regional meetings (as schedule permits) to increase recruitment pathways and enhance SECC's visibility.
  • Network and develop new contacts and forums for recruitment enhancing SECC’s relationships within the region.
  • Increase recruitment and outreach amongst folks from various backgrounds who reflect the populations of the Southeast region.
  • Work with SECC staff to create press releases and public notices of crew presence.
  • Increase the size of the applicant pool for SECC programs.

Member Support

  • Support SECC members throughout their term of service by assisting with first day paperwork needs, providing training during orientation, and aiding members with professional development resources, training, and post program placement when possible.
  • Assist with the implementation of member trainings as needed.
  • Manage internal and external databases related to member terms.
  • Ensure prompt enrollment, tracking, and exiting of AmeriCorps participants.

Organizational Advocacy

  • Successfully engages, leads and supports a positive work environment for all within the organization and the communities we serve.
  • Leads and/or participates in organizational-wide teams, projects and initiatives that support the work of the Strategic Plans goals.
  • Reports any potential complaints within the organization as identified in the Personnel Policy Manual.
  • Assists or leads other responsibilities, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 2 + with any of the following: outreach, recruitment, volunteer engagement, hiring, and/or onboarding new hires.

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, communications, environmental studies, education, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant professional experience.

  • Previous experience with a conservation, youth, or other national service organization preferred.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to successfully work in a fluid, changing work environment.

  • Ability and comfort with speaking in public to different groups of people including youth, adults, community members, etc.

  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office programs and applications, or similar platforms.

  • Ability to keep others and oneself, in remote locations, accountable to expectations.

    Valid Driver’s License and Insurable Driving Record per Personnel Policies.

  • Must be able to pass the organization’s criminal history check requirements.
