Purpose:

Stewards Individual Placements is an AmeriCorps Program which provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and protect our natural and cultural resources. The National Park Service protects unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. Moores Creek National Battlefield commemorates and protects the sites and stories surrounding the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, fought February 27, 1776, for education and military study. Natural resources are undergoing revitalization at the park, where a wide variety of flora and fauna are protected.

The Natural Resource Stewardship and Sciences Fellow is an AmeriCorps position that will have a key role in critical vegetation restoration, carnivorous plant habitat restoration, and invasive species management. The AmeriCorps member will support natural resource stewardship activities and assist park staff in providing a range of services designed to foster meaningful connections to Moores Creek National Battlefield and its rich history. During the course of the internship, the member will serve independently on day-to-day tasks and coordinate with visiting subject matter experts (SMEs) for technical direction and support on specific restoration and monitoring projects. The member will gain a deeper understanding of on-the-ground natural area management in a dynamic public lands setting alongside experienced National Park Service employees. This position is designed to help the member grow professionally and deepen their understanding of how land management agencies such as the National Park Service balance their mission of providing opportunities for the public to experience parks while ensuring that resources are protected.
