Position Title: NPS Historic Preservation Training Center – HPTC Youth Patriot Program Lead Fellow

Conservation Legacy Program: Stewards Individual Placements

Site Location: Remote (Some position related travel required)

Terms of Service:

  • Start Date: 10/13/2025
  • Duration: 52 Weeks
  • Payrate: $30/hour, 40 hours per week

Purpose:

Stewards Individual Placements (STE) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

This position will work directly with the MAT Program Coordinator and focus on supporting program operational/administrative tasks related to MAT project planning, executing, reporting and tracking. In addition to operation and administrative support, this position will serve as a leader for the Patriot Fellows program assisting with coordination and support of the cohort of other fellows.

Position Administrative Parameters:

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 hours per day. Core hours 10-4 Eastern.
  • Site supervisor Check-In: weekly scheduled one-hour check-in meetings to update on projects, address issues, answer questions, task out
  • Duty Station: remote, hybrid or full time in-person schedule to be determined.
  • Time Off: 80 hours paid, comp time arrangements available.

Position Responsibilities and Tasks will include:

Program Administration (50%) Promote and support MAT initiatives and help execute program goals.

  • Work with MAT Coordinator to monitor completion of various program aspects of young adult and veteran program participants.
  • Provide assistance with the tracking of project information such as funding, completion reports, project and partner contacts, annual program trends.
  • Assists with program planning such as cost modeling, scheduling, advertisement, training, execution, and evaluation.
  • Provide assistance with administrative functions related to fund management.
  • Assist with communications with youth serving organizations.
  • Research and recommend program adjustments and improvements based on internal program data and external industry/organization standards and activities.
  • Use problem solving and creative thinking skills to recommend ideas for continual improvement and development of existing programs.
  • Assist with program communications and record keeping (e.g., attend meetings, take notes, keep webpages updated, respond to external correspondence, etc.)

Communications (15%): Communicate MAT mission goals and objectives through programmatic and partner correspondences and reports.

  • Assist with overall program communication and media strategy including press releases, communication with youth corps, coordination with NPS communications, etc.
  • Develop webinars and coordinated calls for parks and youth partners to improve communication and standardize practices.
  • Collaborate with NPS partner organizations to develop synchronized media strategies for special events and other applicable initiatives.
  • Compile information to assist with the creation of reports for project supervisors and PPFL leadership team.
  • Receive mentorship in the coordination of collaborative replies to correspondences and reports. This will include relaying instructions to staff, collecting information, preparing replies, and consolidating/coordinating submittal of information.
  • Assist in the creation of additional communication products as necessary.
  • Conduct communication by supporting social media outreach, internal and external websites, and coordinating activities including preparing and presenting.

Fellows Leader Functions (25%):

  • Serve in a leadership role coordinating with Conservation Legacy and other program leads to support and plan resources, regular meetings, peer-to-peer connection, and opportunities for all Patriot Fellows.
  • Oversee collaborative data management and tracking with Patriot Fellows.
  • Support onboarding of Patriot Fellows.
  • Coordinate with the MAT Coordinator and Patriot Fellows from other cohorts and staff on relevant projects, such as creating standard operating procedures (SOP) and resources for the MAT program.
  • Motivate, direct, and connect members to development opportunities and support services.
  • Promote a productive work environment through routine Patriot Fellows Contact (check-ins, webinars, and newsletters).
  • Participate in regularly scheduled regional and national meetings/calls, representing NPS, MAT, and Patriot Fellows.

Training/Professional Development (10%) of the position will be focused solely on individual professional development (training, skill development, working with other NPS departments in individual’s interests, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.
  • Applicants must be between ages of 18-30 years old, or up to 35 for veteran, based on Public Land Corps Act of 1993 authorizing this AmeriCorps opportunity.
  • Make a full-time, 50-week commitment, with the ability to start in October 2025.
  • Willing to plan occasional travel to important events and potential site visits such as Washington, DC
  • Submit proof of a Driver’s License and undergo a Federal Background Check, upon selection.

  • Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
  • Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience serving in a youth serving organization and/or National Park Service
  • Experience with asset management, program management, and financial software.
  • Experience managing projects and following through on assigned tasks
  • Experience in an office setting, particularly one in the federal government
  • Experience in or ability to telework / work virtually and maintain productivity
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but can be substituted for relevant experience
  • Experience with spreadsheets, accounting and managing funding
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.)

Time Requirements:

  • This position is expected to serve full time 40 hours per week, but exact service schedules may vary depending on travel and project details.

Evaluation and Reporting:

As a Stewards member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has served their total amount of service hours, satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.

Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
