Purpose:
Stewards Individual Placements, a division of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with AmeriCorps service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural and cultural resources.
Keweenaw National Historical Park’s mission is to preserve the nationally significant historical and cultural sites, structures, and districts of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The Interpretation and Education Division at Keweenaw National Historical Park strives to provide memorable and meaningful learning and recreational experiences, foster development of a personal stewardship ethic, and broaden public support for preserving park resources. Keweenaw National Historical Park works with partners of the park, including 22 heritage site partners, to share the nationally significant story of copper in the Keweenaw area of Michigan.
Stewards Individual Placements, in partnership with Keweenaw National Historical Park are seeking an AmeriCorps service member who will work closely with the park's Interpretation & Education Team on content and updates to the park’s website, NPS app content, and the park’s social media. Gain skills in writing, editing, photography, video production, NPS website content management and more! Additionally, the selected applicant for this position will have the opportunity to learn about visitor services and programing working with our front-line ranger staff and volunteers in the visitor center; assisting with school field trip programs, and special events such as the CopperDog sled dog race!
Description of Duties:
To achieve the goals of this position, the Media Member will:
- · Update the park’s website and NPS App
o Work with partners on the Copper TRACES online 4th grade program
o Work with park staff to refine, update, and create new content for the NPS App
o Update website and webpages with content
o Work with park staff to create social media content
- · Support the Calumet Visitor Center
o Provide orientation and trip-planning support with park visitors
o Share information about the park and heritage site partners
o Gain information on visitor demographics and interests to inform future programming
o Create “pop-up” programs to engage with visitors informally while at the visitor center
- · Capture video and images of the park and events
o Take photos and videos of the park and special events to be used for the website, social media, and print publications
o Edit content for ADA access and include meta data for searchability
Qualifications:
- Be a United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien
- Be between the ages of 18 – 30, or up to age 35 with Veteran status
- Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check
- Commit to 25 weeks of service
- Ability to communicate and collaborate in a variety of settings
- Adaptability and capacity to work in a fluid environment
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- · Experience with Adobe Creative Suite programs are a plus, but not required
- · Experience with online communications and editing
- · Familiarity with social media platforms and writing for a variety of audiences
- · Ability to drive with an insurable driving record
- · Bachelor’s degree

Time Requirements:
- Typically, this position is expected to serve Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm, but exact service schedules may vary. A lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service
- May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.
Orientation and Training:
- Members will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities
- Training on NPS Content Management System
- Training on social media policy and guidelines
- Training on visitor center operations
- Training on public speaking, interpretation, and educational topics
- Training on camera and video equipment use
- Training on NPS identity and access standards
Benefits:
- Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $2817.14
- Stipend of $750 a week (pre-tax, paid bi-weekly)

Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service. Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
