Job Description

Position Summary

The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) is hiring two seasonal (4 month) fisheries technicians to conduct fisheries surveys, water quality monitoring, and stream restoration at Fort McCoy, WI. Employees will report to a field office located in Tomah, WI with tasks being conducted at Fort McCoy in west central Wisconsin. All applicants should expect to work 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours required. The position start date is May 26th and an end date of August 28th, 2026. Housing will not be provided; rentals are available in nearby towns of Tomah and Sparta. Essential Job Duties

• Conducting biological assessments on trout streams to include backpack and towed-barge electrofishing, stream habitat surveys, and placing T-bar Floy Tags in brown trout and largemouth bass.

• Monitoring water quality on lakes and streams through the collection of water samples and use of remote sampling devices.

• Native and invasive aquatic plant species identification and distribution surveys and conducting habitat restoration projects to benefit cold-water fish species.
• Interacting with the public through creel surveys and public outreach events.

• Perform general maintenance of equipment and utilize Microsoft Word and Excel for data entry and summarization.

Supervision

This position requires no supervisory duties.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must demonstrate U.S. employment eligibility; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. Successful candidates must have or be able to obtain a valid driving license and the ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicles, boats and trailers. The successful candidate must be able to work outside in inclement weather, walk over uneven terrain, and wade through water. Lifting and carrying equipment will also be required.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be preferred if the applicant was pursuing a degree in Fisheries or Water Resources with experience in fish identification, electroshocking techniques, utilizing water quality devices, and interacting with the public.
