Job Description

Position Summary:

CSU Transportation Services manages the University’s entire fleet of vehicles, trailers, and charter buses, providing high-quality transportation and fleet management to Colorado State University and other State customers, supporting them in achieving their goals and objectives. The unit offers a wide range of services, including vehicle maintenance and repair, bus services, daily rentals, auto liability insurance premium allocation, comprehensive and collision funding, and vehicle accident investigation and repair.

This position provides maintenance and repairs for CSU vehicles and equipment, primarily for vehicles with a GVWR over 10,000 lbs., as well as buses, trash trucks, refrigeration trucks, and other medium- and heavy-duty equipment. Work is performed using repair manuals, diagrams, parts specifications, manufacturer and departmental guidelines, scheduled oil analysis reports, past experience, and mandated federal DOT rules and safety standards. The mechanic diagnoses, repairs, and test-drives vehicles to ensure all issues are fully resolved, supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of CSU’s fleet.

Essential Job Duties:

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance that includes but is not limited to:

  • Changing oil, filters, lubricants, and other fluids on engines, transmission, and drive-trains.

  • Servicing and inspecting injectors, spark plugs, and all engine controls.

  • Inspecting, adjusting, and replacing brake shoes and/or pads.

  • Inspecting, adjusting, and replacing belts, hoses, lines along with cleaning and lubricating parts.

  • Repair vehicle and equipment malfunctions on all vehicle systems .

  • Diagnose vehicle and equipment malfunctions on all vehicle systems.

  • Road test vehicles after repairs are accomplished to determine if repairs and adjustments have remedied the diagnosed malfunctions.

  • Other related duties.

  • Applicant must possess adequate tools and rolling tool box.

  • None

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position, with current proficiency at the journey level OR A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four (4) years.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Air-brake Certification

  • Hydraulic Experience

  • Motor Coach Experience

  • Highschool Diploma/GED

Salary Range

$55,000 - $65,000
