Description of Work Unit | The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at CSU. CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on the Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and other CSU departments to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations. If so, the CEMML Early Career Development Program (ECDP) might be just what you are looking for! Our program offers practical experience in spatial data management, analysis, and administration using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Ideal for students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals. You’ll have the opportunity to earn college credits (and money!), connect with mentors, and build a valuable professional network. You’ll learn about federal land management while building real-world experience to advance your career in GIS. Guided by seasoned Spatial Analysts, you’ll take part in hands-on environmental management projects, developing practical skills and enhancing your professional growth. Paid, temporary positions are available with CSU’s CEMML at military installations throughout the United States and at CSUs main campus. These positions include internships, mentorships, and early career opportunities through CEMML’s ECDP. No military affiliation is required to apply. Ready to take the next step in your conservation career? Join us and make a difference! The GIS Technician will assist with various aspects of the Air Force Environmental GIS Program. Specific duties include developing datasets from multiple sources, shapefiles, reports, paper maps, and publicly available data. Datasets include Natural Resources, Cultural Resources, Environmental Compliance, Environmental Restoration, and Toxics. GIS support tasks may also be required and could include but are not limited to map creation, spatial analysis, and web application development. The GIS technician will assist with the development and distribution of GIS resource documents and templates. Other responsibilities may include assisting off-campus employees with data edits as well as traveling to installations for field data collection. This is an in-person position and candidates must be able to report to the CEMML office located on the CSU campus in Fort Collins, CO. CEMML / ECDP is currently unable to provide relocation or housing costs or recommendations. The positions, duration, and the associated projects vary by location. Each position provides a set of unique projects and tasks to help students and recent graduates understand the roles of environmental staff and the methods they use to directly support their programs and environments. Duty/Responsibility | The Environmental Technician (TSC) will help provide both the ISS GIS Analysts and TSC Data Development team with document scanning, redacting of Personal Identifying Information from toxics reports, and reading and interpreting toxics reports regarding asbestos, PCBs, and lead paint.
