CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. Position Summary
A Vegetation Team Technical Support – Mechanic position is available at Schofield Barracks, HI with Colorado State University (CSU) and the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position is responsible for performing mechanical services and repairs to include inspecting, diagnosing, and servicing of light and heavy equipment at the installation. Work will include performing routine maintenance tasks (inspecting, greasing, cleaning, maintaining fluids, etc.) necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in good working condition. Other duties include maintaining inventory of parts/supplies and ensuring a clean and organized workshop in accordance with the Environmental Compliance Inspection program. Work location is located on US Army Garrison Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii.

Schofield Barracks was established in 1908 to provide mobile defense of Pearl Harbor and the entire island. Located 20 miles from Honolulu on the plateau or “central valley” of Oahu between the two volcanic mountains that comprise the island, the nearly 18,000-acre installation is home to the U.S. Army Garrison, Hawaii.

Work location is dependent on the needs of the partner/project/role and requires staff to be fully in-person.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Experience following directions, working cross-functionally and maintaining safety standards.
  • A High school Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of experience inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing small and large engines, including both gas- and diesel-powered engines
  • Experience performing routine maintenance tasks (inspecting, greasing, cleaning, maintaining fluids, changing tires, replacing parts, etc.)
  • Experience using diagnostic scanners and experience reading and understanding technical service manuals
  • Proven ability to recognize and report defects or malfunctions, upon inspection
  • Ability to maintain simple records and provide reports and status updates as necessary
  • Drive vehicles, such as pick-up trucks, dump trucks, tractors, graders, compactors, bulldozers, loaders, scrapers, mowers, and other light and heavy construction equipment for the purposes of equipment maintenance
  • Proficient verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ability to work outdoors and perform strenuous labor under all weather conditions (e.g., heat and humidity)
  • Perform strenuous tasks, including the ability to lift 75 pounds repeatedly without assistance and working with others as a team to lift heavier items including tires, equipment blades, and equipment parts. Must be physically able to climb onto and under equipment to safely perform all work tasks.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing small and large engines
  • Technical, vocational or trade school education
  • Experience working on diesel engines
  • Experience working on military lands
  • ASE Certification in any of the following (but not limited to)
    • Automobile Service Technology
    • Brakes
    • Electrical systems
    • Engine Performance
    • Engine Repair
    • Electrical systems
    • Manual Drive Train and Axles
    • Suspension and Steering
  • Prior experience supporting the Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) program
  • Working knowledge and experience working with the Department of the Army or other federal land-management agencies
