Description of Work Unit
To provide a wide variety of essential heavy equipment services to maintain and service the outside physical environment of the Colorado State University campuses.
Position Summary
The Equipment operator IV position requires the operation of multiple pieces of heavy equipment to accomplish both scheduled and emergency services. These services include, but are not limited to, utility digs of all types of utilities, street/road maintenance, snow removal, equipment hauling etc. This position oversees all aspects of these individual services from locates, estimating, contractor contacts, safety etc. must see the job through until completion. This position is responsible for managing the following programs:
  • Equipment maintenance, street and asphalt preventative maintenance, and equipment training.
  • Track work performed and budgets on bid jobs.
  • Supports the in-house construction processes by performing plan reviews, construction code reviews, OSHA regulations reviews, and on site management of work performed.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate in the application materials:

  • Four years of full-time (48 months) experience operating a mini excavator, front end loader and/or motor grader.
  • Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s license CDL Class B with air brake endorsement (move to class A within 2 years)

  • Experience operating multiple pieces of heavy equipment (front end loader, mini excavator, skid steer, dump truck, motor grader, dozer, etc.)

  • Snow removal experience
  • Directly related state service experience
Essential Job Duties

Duty/Responsibility
  • Provide excavating services for utility repairs and installations. This includes all types of utilities (water, sewer, electrical, gas lines, etc.) and requires the use of multiple pieces of heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, loaders, tractor trailers, bulldozers, etc.

Job Duty Category Concrete Roads, Sidewalks, Loading Docks and Ramps
Duty/Responsibility
  • Evaluate and assess concrete hazards and conditions to determine the maintenance or replacement needs, including demolition and removals.
  • Install acceptable sub-grade to appropriate elevations, set appropriate forms necessary for projects, install required anchors, pins and reinforcements.
  • Provide support, coordinate installation, and assist in concrete finishing of flatwork and vertical structures including vaults, wet wells, utility tunnels, etc.

Job Duty Category Roads and Parking Lots
Duty/Responsibility
Build, restore and maintain non-asphalt roads and parking lots. Patch, repair and maintain asphalt streets and parking lots. This requires this position to work closely with contractors for completion of tasks.

Provide specialized services for the campus community which includes, but is not limited to, heavy hauling, large tree removal, lake dam work, building retention ponds, moving structures, conduct repairs and installation of RCP, ductile iron, and PVC pipes, etc.

Duty/Responsibility
Remove snow from campus streets and parking lots using a grader, loader, dump truck with plow and sander, snow blower etc. This position is required to respond to emergency snow conditions.
