Description of Work Unit
The Equine Reproduction Laboratory is part of the Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Sciences within the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. The CSU Equine Reproduction Laboratory has developed leading-edge equine reproduction techniques for the equine industry for over 45 years. Techniques such as collection of semen and artificial insemination, recovery and transfer of equine embryos, shipping cooled semen, and shipping cooled embryos are now routine in the equine industry, due in large part to the research, education, and outreach efforts of the CSU Equine Reproduction Laboratory.

The Advanced Reproductive Techniques (ART) program within the ERL has pioneered and continues to lead the way for specialized technologies such as oocyte aspiration, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, post-mortem ovary harvesting for sperm injection and oocyte/embryo culturing methodologies. The ART team focuses on research involving aged mare reproductive improvements, the roles that obesity and metabolic disorders play on pregnancy and improving current oocyte and embryo culturing techniques.
