The Colorado Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit enhances graduate education in fisheries and wildlife sciences, and facilitates research among cooperators and partners including Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the U. S. Geological Survey, the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Wildlife Management Institute. Research conducted by the Unit involves graduate and post-doctoral education and technical assistance to our Cooperators to understand and manage fish and wildlife resources in Colorado and elsewhere. General areas of emphasis include aquatic ecology and fish biology, population and community monitoring and modeling, the analysis of animal movement and spatio-temporal ecological processes, and disease ecology and epidemiology.

We seek a person that would be responsible for processing biological samples in the laboratory and aiding in the analyses of those samples. Specifically, they must have a bachelor’s degree in fisheries, wildlife, or conservation biology or related discipline. The candidate must also have experience in using qPCR to analyze fish disease samples, as well as experience in Pepsin-Trypsin Digestion of fish samples and processing and analyzing data derived from these digestions. They will also be required to aid in the collection of data with mobile laboratory facilities used to collect data on fish survival relative to environmental data. Be responsible for maintaining laboratory facilities in the field. The candidate will be responsible for sampling fish populations with electrofishing equipment and will need to occasionally travel, camp, hike, and collect samples in remote locations. They may be asked to help analyze data and aid in writing reports.
