Description of Work Unit | CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. Position Summary | A Biologist (Little Fire Ant Control) position is available with Colorado State University (CSU) and the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). The majority of work will be conducted on US military bases within the Joint Region Marianas. This position is a 40-hour week appointment and will be physically located in the US Territory of Guam. The Biologist (Little Fire Ant Control) will be the Task Lead for ant population delineations, site preparation and chemical control of invasive little fire ants (Wasmannia auropunctata) on military lands. Invasive species control of little fire ants includes vegetation management, field data collection, treatment planning and pesticide application. The Biologist will be responsible for compiling, analyzing, mapping using ArcGIS and reporting associated data. The daily activities of at least two (2) Biological Technicians will be guided by the Biologist to achieve task goals. There will likely be opportunities to assist with other ecological tasks, including surveys for endangered species. The Biologist is expected to ensure a safe workplace, the proper use of pesticides and installation biosecurity protocols for all team members as they conduct their assigned tasks. Military affiliation is not a requirement for this position. This position is duty stationed on the island of Guam, a self-governing territory of the United States located 3,300 miles west of Hawaii and 1,500 miles east of the Philippines. Guam averages 86 degrees (F) year-round with a multitude of activities, including diving and snorkeling at Tumon Bay Marine Park, sky diving, beautiful hiking trails; as well as modern shopping malls and movie theaters. Field and office work will occur primarily on military lands on Guam administered by Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas. The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. |
