Job Summary
The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for ensuring that suppliers deliver high-quality materials, components, and services that meet company and regulatory requirements. This role works closely with suppliers, engineering, and manufacturing teams to drive continuous improvement, resolve quality issues, and maintain strong supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and qualify new suppliers through supplier evaluations
- Develop and maintain supplier quality requirements, standards, and documentation
- Monitor supplier performance using key metrics (e.g., PPM, on-time delivery, corrective actions)
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes for supplier-related issues
- Conduct supplier audits (on-site and remote) to ensure compliance with quality systems (ISO, AS9100, etc.)
- Collaborate with suppliers to implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Review and approve supplier documentation such as FAI reports, control plans, and inspection results
- Support new product introduction (NPI) by ensuring supplier readiness and quality planning
- Work cross-functionally with engineering and manufacturing to resolve quality concerns
- Maintain supplier quality records and ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related field
- Strong understanding of quality systems (ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar)
- Experience with quality tools (8D, FMEA, SPC, root cause analysis, Six Sigma)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to travel to supplier sites as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in quality engineering, supplier quality, or manufacturing
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma certification
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, or other regulated industries
- Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, and auditing processes
